2007 World Cup
After the 2003 World Cup, hardly anyone would have thought
that it would be possible for any batsman to match Sachin Tendulkar's 673 runs
in a World Cup, and after four years, Australian opener Matthew Hayden almost
surpassed this record. , But missed only by 14 runs.
In the 2007 World Cup, Australia won the World Cup for the
third consecutive year and behind this was the main architect Hayden, who
scored 659 runs in 10 innings at an average of 73 and also with the strike rate
of 101 and with the help of three centuries and one fifty . These are numbers
that will give the best award of the tournament to the batsman in any tournament.
But, the ICC was thinking and because he had given the
prestigious award to Hayden's teammate Glenn McGrath. Like Hayden, McGrath was
also one of the finest tournaments in which he had taken 26 wickets in 11
matches with an economy of 13.73 and economy of 4.41.
It was a close race between the two, but Hayden's
contribution to his team was a bit more than McGrath.
